Dark Corner: A Witch Cat Mystery by Vicki Vass
About the Book
Dark Corner: A Witch Cat Mystery
Evil has awoken in Asheville, North Carolina, and Terra Rowan must prepare the Ladies of the Biltmore Society for battle. With her familiar, Pixel, a crooked leg fluffy orange cat, and her apprentice Abigail Oakhaven, a stubborn teenage girl with a bloodline dating back to the beginning of time, she begins their journey. The witch hunters have come to the Appalachian Mountains in search of the last witch of Salem. The magic of the mountains can no longer protect her and her coven. She must travel to the one place on earth that holds the secret to save mankind – Dark Corner.
Combining elements from different cultures, Appalachian folklore, Celtic legends, Native American mysticism, Dark Corner continues its new witch mythology while staying true to the realm of cozy mystery.
Terra Rowan is a witch trapped between worlds and lost in time.

Abigail’s Point of View
I never meant to cause all this commotion. It’s not my way. I simply meant to drift in and out of Asheville, North Carolina, on my way somewhere else, not quite sure where but anywhere else. Oops, you don’t know who I am? My name is Abigail Oakhaven, and I appear in the Witch Cat Mystery Books.
No, I’m not a cat but I did just find out I am a witch. Didn’t mean to give that away. Forgive me, if you haven’t read the first book in the series, Bloodline. I’m only 18 and thought I had my whole life in front of me and now I’m learning that I’m not who I thought I was. Not only am I an orphan but I’m not even human. Lot to take in, and it all happened at once.
All these revelations started when I came to Asheville and stumbled upon that cat – Terra. Little did I know that her intervention would change my life. There’s a lot I have to learn and let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks in Bewitched. You can’t just twinkle your nose and make things appear. Well, sometimes I can. I’m working on it.
And I like being in Asheville, it’s very cool. There’s brew pubs which I’m not quite old enough for, artists and of course, music. Besides being a witch, I love to play my guitar. It’s the only thing my dad left me and I cherish it. I’m not as good as him but I feel close to him when I am playing. I’m not old enough yet to play the bars here but I sure would like to. Occasionally I play in Pack Square just for fun and to earn a little cash. I don’t tell Terra. She wouldn’t approve. In fact she doesn’t approve of many of the things I want to do. She accuses me of being reckless. Is it my fault that I want to be young while I am young? It’s not my fault she’s like 300 years old.
Besides Terra, my closest companion is Mrs. Twiggs, who is almost as old as her. She runs the local tea shop and offers great insight but she also disapproves of what I want to do almost as much as Terra. I have to sneak out a lot, which is challenging when Pixel is around. The funny little orange cat is almost like a dog.
My best companion is Tracker, the Australian shepherd who discovered me in the woods. He provides me great comfort and follows me wherever I go. I delight in the joy he takes at the simplest things and I feel his blue eyes see into my soul. I pledge to be his companion for life and will take him with me.
Thanks for letting me post here. Hope to meet all of you soon. You can read about our adventures in Dark Corner.
